Viewing and Printing Adobe Acrobat files

Viewing PDF files: If a blank document appears on your screen when trying to view a document try the following:

  • Clear out your cache, or temporary internet folder, through the Options in your web browser. Your browser saves temporary files to your hard drive to speed up the loading of web pages. When the directory or folder containing that information is full, Acrobat pages will not load properly.
  • Check the version of Adobe Acrobat Reader you are currently using. You may try downloading a different version of Adobe Acrobat Reader using the links above. We have found that using Adobe Acrobat version 3.0 provides consistently good results in viewing the PDF files on our web site.
  • Some users may experience difficulty in viewing PDF files on this site with Internet Explorer versions 5.0 and 5.5. If a blank document appears when trying to view a PDF file through Internet Explorer, you may wish to download the newest version of Netscape Navigator. To download Navigator, click on the Navigator icon above.

Printing PDF files: Difficulty in printing the PDF file is not usual in the majority of printers. However, here are some quick tips that may help resolve problems you may have.

  • When trying to print a PDF document, use the print icon in the upper left corner of the Acrobat Reader, not the print function of your web browser.
  • If you are using a laser printer, but are not using a PostScript printer driver, you may wish to do so. If you do not have one for your printer, you may wish to obtain one from your printer's manufacturer.
  • Printing results can sometimes be improved by setting your printer's properties to print TrueType fonts as graphics or bitmaps.
  • If the type appears bunched together after printing a document, it is likely that you will need to obtain the latest printer driver for your printer. Most printer manufacturers have updates to their printer drivers available on their web sites.
  • You may also be able to improve print quality by clicking the "Shrink to Fit" option in your printer's setup.
